Below you can read information on the vaginal self-test. Please read this information over thoroughly before starting the procedure.

Where can you take the self-test?

You can take the self-test in the toilet of the outpatient laboratory at reception 25.

How do you take the self-test?

Please follow the steps below. The procedure can be done either sitting or standing. It is like inserting a tampon.

  1. Open the tube, do NOT throw away the fluid.
  2. Open the package with the swab and take it out. Do NOT touch the swab and do NOT put it down.
  3. Insert the swab with your free hand about 4 cm into the vagina with the round end up, until you feel some resistance (like when you insert a tampon).
  4. Turn the swab around in the vagina for about 5 to 10 seconds. Do not push too hard, for then the swab could break.
  5. Pull the swab from the vagina and put it into the tube.
  6. Bend the swab at the black line against the side so that it breaks.
  7. Turn the lid firmly on the tube.
  8. Put the remaining material into the waste bag.
  9. Wash your hands.

Where do you hand in the self-test?

Hand in the tube with the laboratory form at counter nr. 12 next to the toilet. There a sticker with your name and date of birth will be put on the tube. Please check whether these data are correct.

What to do if...?

  • What do you do if the swab breaks while it is still in your vagina?

Do not panic. It doesn’t matter. Carefully pull the swab out of the vagina and put it into the tube.

  • Can you take the test during your period?

Yes, that’s no problem. If you use a tampon, remove it before starting the procedure.

  • What do you do if there is some loss of blood from your vagina after taking the test?

That’s no problem. The bleeding will stop by itself.

  • What do you do if you drop the swab?

Just go back to reception 21 B to pick up a new package.
